Mas Deportes!

Today in UNIFE we had multiple new cultural exchange opportunities. We started out the day walking into a presentation session where we had four representatives talk about different aspects of university life and the clubs they are a part of. The presenters were Lexi (Sorority Life), Ally (A Cappella), John (Powerlifting), and Anna (Ultimate). Each person gave their presentations in English and it was the students of UNIFE that managed to keep up and translate it for the other students in the auditorium. I'm not sure if any of the presenters meant it but it was very funny watching them talk and listening to how the translations came out of the microphone.

Todays history lecture was on the process of which Spanish South America was divided into the current states it is now. The professora explained the power structure of who was in charge of the colonies both from the Capitol of Spain but also in the new world of Peru. In very similar sense to the American revolution the colonies were continually over taxed by the Spanish elites and the indigenous peoples who had to live in a new european structure were continually oppressed beyond the peoples limits. In the end the people revolted and claimed independence.

We ended the day playing sports with the some of the girls and a few of us ended up talking to them. It was fun being able to freely talk to other students because I feel that my grammar isn't being scrutinized and where expressing the idea of the sentence is more important than perfecting it. However it is important to say this isn't necessarily better for my Spanish, it does give my more confidence in being able to converse. We tried to teach the students frisbee but after a half hour everyone cohesively wanted to switch to volleyball. We ended up playing a huge game with 15 people on both sides with some excellent volleys going back and forth. Nothing truly new or exciting to express except another fun day.
